Event: NON-EU Labour import and new labor law regulations

The labor market in Romania is currently facing significant challenges, with an increasing number of companies encountering major difficulties in finding qualified personnel. The shortage of specialists across various sectors negatively impacts business performance, leading to delays, additional costs, and missed growth opportunities.

In this context, importing foreign labor is becoming an increasingly viable alternative for employers. Recently, our colleague Rozana Cozma, a lawyer specialized in immigration, participated as a speaker at the event organized by the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, titled “Foreign Labor Import and New Regulations in Labor Legislation,” aimed at analyzing both the opportunities and challenges posed by hiring non-EU workers, along with updates in the legislative framework.

The event was attended by representatives from key Romanian institutions, including the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI), the Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM), and the National Visa Center. This debate offered an excellent opportunity to discuss in detail current legal provisions and recent legislative changes in immigration, which directly influence the procedures and duration involved in recruiting foreign workers.

Practical aspects were also addressed, such as simplified bureaucratic procedures, necessary documentation, and methods through which employers can facilitate the quick and effective integration of foreign workers into their companies.

Benefits of recruiting foreign labor

Recruiting labor from outside the EU can be a viable solution for many Romanian companies. Although the process is not simple, the advantages can be substantial:

  • Foreign employees bring valuable experience and specific skills often lacking in the local labor market.
  • Long-term contracts contribute to team stability and reduce employee turnover.
  • Companies benefit from financial predictability and stability by optimizing costs related to salaries and staff training.
